Start time: 7pm
Finish time: 8-8.30pm
Meeting location: Dalfaber, Aviemore; more details provided on booking.

A special wee walk for Imbolc or St Bride’s Day – the first day of spring (always seems a bit early for the Cairngorms!) We’ll discover Imbolc traditions as well as Scotland’s own Gaelic and Pictish stories of the stars from thousands of years ago, on a short evening stroll. The skies are a rich tapestry of tales of characters and their adventures, from warrior queens to one-eyed giants. (The Gaelic myths put the Greeks to shame!) And we’ll keep warm with a cup of foraged wild tea.

Suitable for all ages.

Note on weather: If the weather is atrocious (gales, sideways rain or snow), the walk will be cancelled and full refunds given. If it’s cloudy with a possibility to see stars, the walk will still go ahead and we will hope to see the skies! Star maps will be provided for cloudy days. If it’s fully cloudy, I will contact participants about options.

Description of walk
The walk starts from the north of Aviemore (location will be shared on booking), and is around 1-1.5 miles (around 2km) long. We’ll follow surfaced tracks and footpaths for the most part.
I can adapt the route of the walk to make it fully accessible for prams or wheelchairs; please let me know in advance.
Dogs are allowed but only if others booked onto the same walk are okay with this. If you want to bring a dog please let me know ahead of booking.

What to wear/bring
Please dress appropriately for the weather! Lots of layers and waterproofs to stay warm, as we’ll be standing still for a lot of the time. Please wear strong, sturdy shoes or boots. A torch or headtorch will be useful, particularly one with a red light so we can keep our night vision. You may also wish to bring a sit mat/camping mat with you for laying down and stargazing when we stop for tea!
Covid-19: Please bring your own cup if you’d like to try the wild tea.

What I will bring
I will bring wild tea, a torch and headtorch, a bag of tricks, and a smile. I will also have a First Aid kit with me just in case!
Covid-19: I will also bring hand sanitiser.
